The difference between you’re, your, and yore is easy to remember.
You’re is the contraction of you are; the apostrophe stands for the missing letter a; thus, you can insert the words you are in place of you’re in the following sentences without affecting the meaning:
You’re my best friend
You’re late to the meeting again!
Your is the possessive form of you, ending in r—just like her, our, and their:
Please take your shoes off before coming into my house.
For the trip, you will need your passport.
Yore is an archaic noun meaning “old times”—the long-ago past, the time of legends, before the modern era—usually the classical or medieval eras, but possibly earlier. As an archaic word, yore is used in only one way to mean “of yore”:
Cities of yore were usually surrounded by high walls.
In days of yore, life was cheap.
Note, yore usually does not mean earlier than the beginning of civilization (approximately 5,000 years ago).
